‘Wordscraper’ is the new avatar of Scrabulous on Facebook

by DB on July 31, 2008

After shutting down Scrabulous for US and Canadian users on Facebook, the Agarwalla brothers – Rajat Agarwalla and Jayant Agarwalla have now launched a new scrabble like game called ‘Wordscraper’.
The description for Wordscraper on its Facebook applications page reads as follows :

Welcome to Wordscraper. It’s the only game on Facebook that allows you to play the game the way you want to! With Wordscraper you can build your own board and try out whacky combinations with special high value squares.

The game is turn based, so you need not be online for very long periods. Plus, we also give you the option to store a board layout. This saves time when you want to play new games with the same layout.

So give it a try, you will love it. Don’t follow rules, make them!

Wordscraper is already climbing the popularity charts on Facebook faster than expected. As of now, Wordscraper has about 3,569 active users. Meanwhile Hasbro’s beta release of the ‘ORIGINAL’ seems to be racking up pretty good numbers too (current count : 62,000 +), but a lot of users have reported problems with Hasbro’s scrabble. Hasbro probably was not ready for the influx of new users.

This was probably a good move by the Agarwalla brothers. They pulled the plug on ‘Scrabulous’ after they created ‘Wordscraper’ and launched ‘Wordscraper’ right away after frustrated users started experiencing problems with Hasbro’s Scrabble.

Even though ‘Wordscraper’ is a modification of the original ‘Scrabble’, i think the creators should get their patents ready and also release a board game once the app becomes more popular on Facebook.
